S E A Consultants was retained as the architect and engineer of record to plan, design and administer construction services for the $13 million expansion of the Suffolk County House of Correction. The new addition is four stories tall and contains facilities for both male and female medium security detainees. The housing portion of the project is comprised of precast concrete modules which are shipped to the site and largely prefinished in the factory. This method saved time and money for the client.

The building is managed by the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department and the design and construction was administered by the Department of Capital Planning and Operations (DCAM). Construction on the soft blue clay of Boston necessitated the use of a pile supported structure. Hazardous materials were also remediated on the site.
