Development Programming and Materials Handling Harvard University Art Museums Fogg Museum and River Museum Cambridge, Massachusetts
Harvard University currently houses its Art Museums in two buildings that do not fully meet the needs of the university. Harvard commissioned S E A Consultants for a programming and materials handling study to plan for the preferred configuration of facilities among three possible alternatives. Working with design plans by Renzo Piano Design Workshop of Genoa, Italy and Payette Associates of Boston, S E A Developed alternative development scenarios for art storage, registration and non-art support functions, as well as for related vehicle access and support needs. S E A developed three proposed alternatives for a main registration and service facility at a new River Museum, for a central delivery and service facility at a remote site, and for upgrading the existing Fogg Museum to accommodate operations, art deliveries, storage and conservation. Conference and event accommodations are a major part of the service requirements at the HUAM. Programming for design of space for more than 300 events annually at the existing facilities was completed by S E A.
