Pittsfield's move to become "greener" prompted the city to evaluate the potential for the use of digester gas generated during the anaerobic digestion process at its wastewater treatment facility.
Sustainable features
The re-use of digestion gas will be used in a combined heat and power system that will result in reduced peak energy demand and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the use of the flarestack, currently used to burn waste methane into the atmosphere.
