The Maine DOT and local community wanted to design a landmark structure to replace a historic bridge. The original 1928 bridge had four concrete tied-arch spans. The new bridge retains the tied arch, but transforms it into a stunning 300-foot single arch standing 60 feet high. When completed in 2011, it will be the only modern concrete tied arch east of the Rockies.
