Cambridge Fresh Pond Parkway
Combined Sewer Overflow
Cambridge, MA
City Of Cambridge, MA
Municipal
The City of Cambridge needed to reduce the discharge of untreated sewage from combined sewer overflows to local waterways. To meet that goal, S E A provided program and project management for a sewer separation program including the Fresh Pond Parkway CSO and 2,000 linear feet of new and rehabilitated pipes.
Sustainable features
The project is an important element of the Boston Harbor clean-up. Through the City's its sewer separation and stormwater management program, untreated sewage and other pollutants are kept out of area waterways. Additionally, this project facilitates the next phases of sewer separation in the upstream areas.
Client collaboration
S E A worked closely with the client to investigate the system and design for the City’s needs. We learned that sediment deposits had become a problem and were able to incorporate innovative self-cleaning features, including using saved water treatment plant water discharge and diverted rainfall run-off for periodic pipe cleaning.
