The new 200,000 sf. Building will replace the aging facility currently being used by the MA Army and Air National Guard. The masonry and storage building is anticipated to receive a LEED Silver certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. The building is organized in two wings jointed by a multi-storey lobby.
Sustainable features
Sustainable features of this project are numerous, including: reuse of a previously developed site, water efficient landscaping, 40% water use reduction, optimized energy performance/energy modeling, construction waste management, use of regionally sourced, recycled-content building materials, , and adherence to an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) Management Plan.
Client collaboration
Following interviews with department managers, a concept was selected maximizing exterior wall areas for offices and locating spaces not requiring natural ventilation and lighting to interior areas of the building. Most of the space is highly flexible to accommodate future mission changes.
