MBTA Accessibility Improvement

Sustainable features

Improving the MBTA’s vertical circulation in 5 key intermodal stations and creating redundant accessible paths, encourages the use of public transportation. Larger, safer, new elevators, offer MBTA patrons a more reliable commute.

Client collaboration

The oldest subway system in the U.S. has faced enormous logistical & financial issues in the past few decades and is updating its infrastructure to increase accessibility.
S E A is working closely with the MBTA, the access community, and the cities of Boston & Cambridge to build elevators offering patrons improved access routes.

Client results

These projects will improve accessibility and vertical circulation at Harvard Square, Porter Square, State Street, Downtown Crossing and Park Street Stations. Creating redundant elevators or accessible paths will also allow the MBTA to take elevators out of service for routine maintenance, while still having a fully accessible, commuter-friendly station.
