Sustainable features

Deconstruction minimized waste by recycling demolition and construction waste, reusing on-site materials, and monitoring material use. Strict adherence to the applicable energy codes; analyzing alternatives to building insulation, HVAC, and lighting systems; and implementing natural ventilation, daylight, and other passive strategies considerably lowered the armory’s energy demand.

Client collaboration

The project required a firm possessing diverse architectural, engineering and environmental services. S E A worked closely with the CT DPW and the Guard to accommodate the unique requirements of the incoming users including smoke generators, chemical decontamination equipment, and the ability to house a variety of military vehicles.

Client results

Project delivery through fast-track design services and carefully phased construction maintained preparedness and mobilization levels of the protective force. Reconfiguration of roadways and parking areas met the Department of Defense’s Anti-Terrorism Force Protection requirements providing a high level of security.
