The Town of Exter retained S E A for this challenging project which consisted of replacement of an existing cast-in-place bridge superstructure with a new precast concrete superstructure supported on rehabilitated historic stone abutments. The project required bypassing both water and sewer mains as well as the relocation of fiber optic lines (originally mounted to the downstream exterior arch) and gas mains to be supported underneath the structure.

The work was performed by staged construction in order to allow for one active lane of traffic during construction. A custom designed precast concrete ornamental railing was created to match the existing railing including an exposed aggregate finish and the attachment and reuse of the original lamp posts. The bridge provides 30'-0" travel way curb to curb and two 5'-6" sidewalks, resulting in an overall bridge width 43'-8".
