Suburban Avenue Surface Improvements and Pedestrian Bridge Greenwich, Connecticut
S E A was retained by the Town for the construction of a municipal parking lot and a pedestrian bridge between the public library and an elementary school. The design was highly focused on aesthetics, as the project was located in the historic Cos Cob district of Greenwich.
S E A was responsible for the design of a new precast concrete culvert located where the tidal waterway crossed Suburban Avenue. The new culvert resulted in an increase in hydraulic capacity while maintaining the vehicle load rating. The parapet and wing walls were specially designed to meet current standards and blend in with the surrounding masonry architecture.
The work also involved the construction of drainage, curbing, driveways, sidewalks and brick paver pedestrian crosswalks and various utility and surface improvements along Suburban Avenue. The work was subject to the approval of multiple review committees such as Inland Wetlands, the Town's architectural review board, and ConnDOT.
