S E A Consultants was retained by the Town of Winchendon to develop a 1.35 kilometer (0.85 mile) shared use path along a segment of abandoned rail bed. This project represents the first phase of a much larger plan to develop a shared use path in Winchendon from the Gardner Town line to the New Hampshire border. Users of this path will include bicyclists, in-line skaters, wheelchair users, walkers and runners, to name a few. The work, estimated at $425,000, will include the design of structural modifications to at least one of two existing railroad bridges along the proposed pathway to accommodate the new use.

Through this project, the Town has an opportunity to provide its residents and visitors with safe and enjoyable access to and through lands and scenic vistas heretofore seen only from the vantage of a locomotive or a caboose!
