S E A was retained by the City of Concord to complete the second phase of this sewer interceptor project that included the design of approximately 5,600 feet of 18-inch gravity sewer interceptor through an industrial park. Major portions of the project involved deep sewer construction to depths exceeding 30 feet. Sandy soil and high groundwater were major considerations in the design of the sewer. S E A explored alternative construction methods including trenchless technologies, specifically microtunnelling, versus open cut excavation with trench boxes and temporary sheeting to determine the most cost-effective approach for construction.
