Hanscom Air Force Base Breaks Ground
On new Joint Force Headquarters
07/02/2010 - A groundbreaking ceremony was held at Hanscom Air Force Base, Bedford, MA, on July 1, at the site of the new Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ). The JFHQ will be future home to more than 300 Massachusetts National Guard soldiers, airmen, and civilian employees who are currently located on Maple Street in Milford, MA. Through phased execution, the construction will be subsidized through federal Army and Air Force military construction funds. The projected start date is as early as July with a completion of December, 2011.
Hanscom Air Force Base, a state-of-the-art facility, will benefit members and civilian employees by offering around-the-clock security, existing military infrastructure, secure communication, and a location that allows the Massachusetts National Guard to continue to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a crisis. The Massachusetts National Guard provides a trained, ready, and operational force to respond to manmade attacks and natural disasters. The new headquarters, providing state-of-the-art communications capabilities and operational resources, will aid the National Guard in accomplishing these missions.
Kleinfelder/S E A is the lead designer on the 210,000 sf JFHQ, anticipated to receive a LEED Silver rating by the U.S. Green Building Council. The JFHQ is expected to reduce energy costs by $100,000/year through MEP systems and controls. Kleinfelder/S E A designed bio-swales to reduce stormwater runoff through increased stormwater retention time which increases infiltration of rainwater.

What our clients say...
This project required a complex sequence of utility relocations to clear the sites and to clear the street for tunnel construction. S E A has done an extraordinary job and knows very well university needs, site planning and engineering, as well as the process of implantation, permitting, and construction.
