ACEC Honors Andre Martecchini
With national community service award
10/26/2009 - Andre Martecchini, a principal of SEA Consultants Inc., was awarded a 2009 Community Service Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) at the recent ACEC Fall Conference in Palm Springs.
This award recognizes a principal or manager of an ACEC member firm who has made a significant contribution to the quality of life in his community.
Martecchini has been very active in local and regional government throughout his career. In his hometown of Duxbury, he has served 12 years on the Board of Selectmen, including one four-year term as chairman, and three years on the Planning Board. As a Selectmen, he led the effort to implement a Pay-as-You-Throw trash program at the Duxbury transfer station, which increased recycling by 35 percent and reduced solid waste disposal costs by $200,000.
On a regional level, Martecchini represented Duxbury on the Metropolitan Area Planning Councils South Shore Coalition; served as a director of Vision 2020, a regional planning group representing 53 southeastern Massachusetts communities; and represented Duxbury on the Route 3 South Land Development Task Force. For his efforts, Martecchini received the BSCE Lester Gaynor Award for public service in Duxbury and the 2nd Annual Mayflower Compact Award in recognition of regional leadership in growth management.
The American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) is the business association of Americas engineering industry, representing approximately 5,700 independent engineering companies throughout the United States engaged in the development of Americas transportation, environmental, industrial, and other infrastructure. Founded in 1910 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., ACEC is a national federation of 51 state and regional organizations.
