NHDOT retained S E A Consultants to perform design and construction administration services for a new DOT Mechanical Services Facility on Route 106 and a new Materials and Research Facility on Hazen Drive. The Materials and Research Facility will be an approximate 29,000 SF two-story structural steel and brick clad building, with significant site improvements and utility relocations required on its 3-acre site. The Mechanical Services Facility consists primarily of single-story structures, located on an approximate 15-acre, wooded lot with rolling terrain. This challenging site included river and wetland setbacks, in addition to the sloping topography.
S E A's design solutions were based on a careful analysis of the building program and maximizing the use of the difficult sites. The Mechanical Services facility is sensitively cradled in the hillside and designed to allow for maximum flexibility of internal use. The laboratory takes its clues from the materials and proportions of the adjacent office complex. The total construction cost for this project is estimated to be $16 million.
