World’s First 9,300-CEU Methanol Dual-Fuel PCTC Delivered!

2025.09.22

On September 17, 2025, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) officially took delivery of the CM HONGKONG, the world’s first 9,300-car methanol dual-fuel powered Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC).

Built by China Merchants Industry, the vessel features a complete methanol energy ecosystem — including dual-fuel main engine, auxiliary engines, boiler, and supply units — enabling flexible fuel switching. It complies with IMO Tier III standards, and when running on green methanol, can reduce over 70% of GHG emissions.

Impressive Specifications
Length: 219.9m, Beam: 37.7m, Depth: 14.9m
13 cargo decks with a capacity of 9,492 CEU (design: 9,300 CEU)
Capable of carrying diverse cargo: cars, trucks, buses, trailers, heavy machinery, and next-gen NEVs (hydrogen & gas-fueled vehicles)

Strategic Impact
The CM HONGKONG is the first of a series of six methanol dual-fuel PCTCs (2 × 9,300 CEU and 4 × 7,800 CEU) ordered by CMES. This delivery enhances CMES’s ro-ro fleet structure and supports the surging export of Chinese NEVs, reinforcing competitiveness in the global PCTC market.
This milestone not only showcases a breakthrough in China’s green shipbuilding capability, but also sets a new global benchmark for sustainable car carrier operations.
